According to a KBTX news report, traffic fatalities are on the rise in 2021. The latest data shows that as of May 19, 2021, more than 208,000 crashes were reported statewide in the past year, and 3,893 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2020, up from 3,623 fatalities in 2019.
However, I-45 is particularly problematic. Here’s why.
I-45, which runs north and south, has claimed too many lives. Chron.com reports that not only is I-45 the most dangerous in all of the U.S., it’s also the most dangerous road in the world. The most hazardous part of I-45 is the stretch that runs through Houston. Here are the most common reasons for crashes on I-45:
Reckless driving (speeding, tailgating, etc.)
Traffic and congestion
Distracted driving (texting and driving, talking on the phone while driving)
Driving under the influence of alcohol
No matter what road you drive on, it’s critical to practice defensive driving habits to keep you and other motorists safe. Here are some tips:
Stay focused on the task of driving
Be aware of what other drivers are doing around you
Don’t ride too close behind other drivers
Use signals when making lane changes
Limit distractions such as keeping your cell phone off while driving
Even though you practice defensive driving, there is still some risk of being involved in a car crash. When other drivers fail to drive carefully and engage in reckless driving behaviors, it can cause a severe injury, leaving victims with a long recovery and the burden of medical bills.
If you or a loved one has suffered severe injuries due to another’s negligent actions, you have the right to pursue compensation and hold them accountable. We’ll be here to support you every step of the way when going through a challenging time.
